We are delighted to announce that the amazing Cheese and Chilli Festival is returning to Winchester for for the 6th time in 2020, once again we will be at the North Walls Recreation Ground (behind the River Park Leisure Centre).
Dan has been performing all over the world ,for the last 16 years.
He has worked at Festivals , on Stages and on the Streets in front of thousands of people.
His quick wit and on the button ‘improv’ silliness is a sure fire hit with any audience!
Let ‘Dan the Hat’ take you on a frenzied journey of Skills, Comedy. Stupid Stunts and heaps of Audience interaction, (whether they like it or not!)
A festival is not a festival without some live music! To keep us entertained, we have a number of bands playing for us throughout the weekend. The bands will be celebrated musicians from around the region playing anything from from jazz to rock. See the schedule for further information.
A number of cooking demonstrations or talks will be offered by professionals from the cheese and chilli industry. Many sessions will be hosted by the famous Chilli Olly but we will also have many guest speakers. See the schedule for further details. The Demonstration Theatre will also host the popular Hot Food Challenge, Ready Steady Cook interactive cooking session plus many more.
The Box That Rox is a karaoke video booth that provides fantastic entertainment. Anyone can have a go, it’s FREE!
Have a go at Circus Skills; including juggling, diabolo, poi, plate spinning, flower sticks, staff spinning, hula hooping, stilt walking, unicycles and rola bola – we even have a freestanding slackline for the more adventurous to try!
The animal HQ display vehicle is your opportunity to get up-close and personal with some varied animals.
In a safe and controlled environment both for the animals and visitors you will be able to sit and handle lots of different animals in a warm, bright, multi-sensory environment with led lighting, jungle sounds and jungle effects.
The Chilli Eating Competition takes place each day at around 4pm. It’s quite a sight to see grown adults struggle to eat tiny fruits and hilarious to see the consequences! The winner of the competition is the person who can stay in the game the longest! If you are mad enough for the challenge, please contact us.
Another FREE activity, why not test yourself against our very own Cheese & Chilli Crazy Golf Course. Par 27! Large and small putters available plus multicoloured balls so no cheating.
At each event we have a tailored selection of sauces from various traders around the site and we ask you to judge which ones you prefer. When entering the event, you are given a ballot slip to be used in this area. Your vote counts!
We have number of FREE activities available for the kids. We have Punch & Judy, Magic Shows, Treasure Hunts, Balloon Modelling, Crazy Golf, Football and Circus Skills available. There are paid for activities also such as mini fun fair rides, face painting, inflatables etc. We are very sad to say that our resident Pirate Magician Alf Mackay sadly passed away at the end of last season and we would like to dedicate all our shows this year to him. He is sadly missed and as a token to him, any child coming to the event dressed as a pirate will receive a sweet gift.
The Hot Food Challenge is a crazy 30 minutes of watching people try and devour a HOT meal prepared lovingly by our resident chef Chilli Olly. The winner is the person who can finish their first! If you are mad enough for the challenge, please contact us.
An array of lovely cheese & chilli available for you to sample and purchase. We are very lucky to be supported by some of the uk’s leading growers, makers and manufacturers of cheese and chilli related products. It’s a chance to come and try something new and learn something about these fantastic products.
If the activities on offer aren’t your thing, you can just come and have a good time with your friends or family. Let the good times roll!
Cancer Research UK are excited to be attending the Cheese & Chilli festivals as the dedicated charity for 2020. We are the world’s largest charity dedicated to saving lives through research. Our vision it to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. In the 1970’s, less than a quarter of people with cancer survived. But over the last 40 years, survival has doubled – today half will survive. Our ambition it to accelerate progress and see 3 in 4 people surviving the disease by 2034.
WE DON’T BREAK RECORDS. WE BEAT CANCER.
MAKE A DATE TO JOIN THE RACE FOR LIFE IN Winchester – Sunday 31st May 2020
Race for Life brings millions of people together to raise vital funds to support lifesaving research and help beat cancer. This year the South Events Team are teaming up with the organisers of the Cheese & Chilli festival to get as many of you involved as possible and we have some exciting things coming your way, so watch this space.
Georgina Horne, Cancer Research UK’s Winchester Event Manager, said: “This year, our Race for Life events are open to everyone. We’re sending a heart-felt message to anybody who’s thought about signing up in the past but for one reason or another hasn’t got around to it. This is your year – please seize the opportunity to register for your local event and become part of the Race for Life community. She added: “Our events are fun, colourful, emotional and uplifting. Participants take part at their own pace – taking as much time as they like to complete the course. For some people, the Race for Life is literally a walk in the park. For others, it’s a jog or a run. Although ‘Race’ features in the name, our events are not competitive. Instead, ‘the Race for Life’ is about our doctors, nurses and scientists working as hard and fast as possible to help more people survive.”
This year, for the first time, Cancer Research UK is inviting everyone in the area – women, men and children – to join the Race for Life. The event for people of all ages and abilities is taking place at North Walls Recreation Ground and we can’t wait to see you all there.
“One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer, at some point during their lifetime. Sadly, this means nearly everyone is touched by the disease, either directly or through a loved one or friend.
“To make a significant difference in the fight against cancer we need to harness as much energy and commitment as possible – so what better way than involving everyone in the community in our events.” Join the Race for Life at https://raceforlife.cancerresearchuk.org/find-an-event
Don’t forget to collect your discount vouchers on the door along with your programme. The vouchers are worth approximately £20 so you can get the cost of your entry back when you buy your goodies.
